Description
In a nutshell:
A poised, elegant Pouilly-Fumé, with crisp citrus, smoky minerality, and a fine, flinty edge that lingers beautifully.
The lowdown:
Pouilly-Fumé at its finest, this captures Sauvignon Blanc's signature flinty edge, a reflection of the chalky, flint-rich soils it calls home. From the highly respected organic producer Domaine Laporte, it opens with crisp minerality before giving way to delicate honeyed aromas and a long, rounded finish. That purity and precision shine through beautifully, leaving a lingering, smoky elegance. A long-time favourite on our shelves for good reason.
The Producer:
Since 1986 Domaine Laporte has been under the ownership of the Bourgeois family, well-regarded growers from nearby Chavignol. They kept the old vineyards, cellar and house and maintained the excellent reputation of the Laportes. It is one of the most highly respected estates in the upper Loire Valley with holdings extended to over 30 hectares including some of the most highly regarded vineyards in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. They are certified organic producers which they combine with traditional and natural vinification methods and the hallmark of their wines is their purity and freshness.
When to drink:
With its crisp minerality and flinty elegance, this is spot on for oysters, smoked salmon, or grilled sea bass, while the citrus lift makes it brilliant with tangy goat's cheese too.
