Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, spicy and multilayered South Amercian red from Uruguay.
The lowdown:
In terms of output Uruguay is some way behind it's South American neighbours Chile and Argentina and certainly not so well known, but it's an up and coming wine producing country with good vineyard sites and some talented winemakers. The Pisano family are a long standing producer and their wines really exemplify the quality coming from here. This nicely weighty wine is a blend of mainly Tannat and Syrah with a little Viognier making up the balance. Lighty oaked, there's a lot going on here with bold sweet and sour fruits together subtle smoke, warm spice, toasty oak, blackcurrant and violets all mingling on the nose and palate. It's also very well balanced with fine, supple tannins and a clean acidity adding freshness and vivacity. It's got a smooth lingering finish leaving a really pleasing aftertaste.
The Producer:
Pisano Wines in Uruguay has been a family affair since their first vineyards were planted back in 1914. They're not a large producer, with an annual output of less than 20,000 cases, but they take pride in their artisanal approach, valuing quality over quantity. The Pisano family is dedicated to keeping all their processes as natural and sustainable as possible. If any grape can be considered the speciality of Uruguay, it's Tannat, and this is where the Pisano brothers really shine, crafting wines that truly reflect the character of their region.
When to drink:
A well thought out blend that works really well; perfect with grilled meats, roasts or barbecues.
Suitable for Vegans
