Description
In a nutshell:
An organic, slightly hazy, fresh and bright white from the western end of Sicily.
The lowdown:
The vineyards this wine is grown in are in the sandy soils of Alcamo, west of Palermo, nearly 300m above sea level. It's made from the local variety Catarratto which, when ripe, is picked early in the day keep the acidity and freshness needed to make a bright and crunchy wine. It undergoes a short maceration on its skins which adds an extra depth of flavour and golden tinge to the colour. Clean and fresh and with a complexity and depth way beyond its price point it's full of ripe citrus and stone fruit, minerality, with notes of spice and herbs and a great balance. Please note it's bottled unfiltered and can have a cloudy appearance.
The Producer:
The Vesco family, deeply embedded in the Sicilian wine scene, are the ones behind the Ciello label. Their organic vineyards are perched in the hills above Alcamo, an area perfect for cultivating high-quality grapes. In the winery, they stick to natural methods: no fining or filtration, wild yeasts, and minimal sulphur. Yet, their approach is anything but old-fashioned - state-of-the-art equipment and practices ensure precision. The result? Wines as natural as you'll find, crafted with modern standards. It's a blend of tradition and innovation and a beacon of quality Sicilian winemaking.
When to drink:
Flavourfilled everyday drinking, it's great with prosciutto, salami and all types of cured meats.
