Description
In a nutshell:
A golden, fruity and floral Barbados rum aged in American ex-whiskey barrels.
The lowdown:
Mount Gay Eclipse is the embodiment of the distillery's trade mark style. It's distilled in a mix of coulmn and pot stills before being aged in ex-whiskey barrels from the USA. It's a fruity and floral rum with aromas of banana, vanilla and honeysuckle while on the palate the oaky character comes through along with some ripe summer fruits, a touch of spice and hint of soft smoke that linges nicely on the finish.
The Producer:
In the first half of the 18th century a William Sandford acquired a sugar plantation in the north of Barbados named Mount Gilboa which in time passed to his son, who because of being mainly resident in England appointed his friend Sir John Gay Alleyne to manage the estate. After Sir John's death in 1801 the estate was renamed Mount Gay in his memory. Following further expansion and changes of ownership down the years a controlling interest was taken by the French drinks company Rémy Cointreau in 1989. Since then, with improved distribution and marketing capability Mount Gay has swiftly become one of the leading brands of rum.
