Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, barrel-fermented white Rioja, combining ripe stone fruit and citrus with vanilla, toasted nuts, and a creamy texture, all lifted by a streak of fresh acidity.
The lowdown:
'Fermentado en Barrica' tells you that this white has had some time in barrel, giving it a subtle toasty, oaky character. But it's not big or heavy - quite the opposite. With ripe tropical fruit, a delicate hint of florality, and a really fresh, bright finish, it's wonderfully balanced. If you enjoy a touch of oak that complements rather than overwhelms the rounded fruit, this spot-on white Rioja is just the ticket. The richness is there without sacrificing freshness.
The Producer:
Situated in the small town of Azagra, on the border of Navarra and Rioja, Bodegas Manzanos is uniquely positioned to produce wines from both renowned regions. Founded in 1890, the real transformation occurred in 2010 when Victor Fernández de Manzanos, his brother David, and Laura Mateo took the helm. They revitalised the winery, introducing cutting-edge equipment and expanding their facilities. Today, they manage several hundred hectares of vines, crafting a diverse array of wines. Their Finca Manzanos, Voché, and Castillo de Enériz ranges brilliantly showcase both contemporary and traditional winemaking styles, embodying the best of both worlds.
When to drink:
Pair it with roast chicken, creamy seafood dishes, or a traditional Spanish bacalao stew - the wine's rich, toasty flavours and creamy texture stand up to buttery sauces, while its bright acidity keeps everything fresh and balanced.
