Description
In a nutshell:
A ripe, buttery, and subtly oaked Chardonnay from the Ardèche, made with all of Louis Latour's Burgundian expertise.
The lowdown:
We've heard this called a mini-Meursault. Well if you look at who made it you can certainly see why. Top Côte de Beaune whites are a pricey affair, but this offers a far more wallet-friendly way in. Crafted on their Ardèche estate near the Rhône, it's been a tribute to its prestigious Burgundian cousins since the 1980s. Aged for around ten months in oak barrels, it nails that classic Côte d'Or style - fresh almond and vanilla on the nose, crisp apple and citrus, with ripe apricot and a touch of brioche richness on the palate. For a taste of buttery, Burgundian indulgence without the Côte d'Or price tag - this is the answer.
The Producer:
One of the most recognisable names in Burgundy, Louis Latour has been family-owned since 1797 and built its reputation on Chardonnay. Few do it better, from top Grand Crus across the Côte-de-Beaune - their Corton-Charlemagne being a particular standout - to brilliant village wines. But their expertise doesn't stop at the Côte dOr. In the Ardèche, they apply the same skill and precision, producing wines that are superb, good value, Burgundy look-alikes. When it comes to Burgundian Chardonnay, they're pretty much the benchmark.
When to drink:
Not one for cellaring - so no need to wait around, just enjoy it today. Pair it with things like roast pork with apple, creamy chicken fricassée, or buttery guinea fowl - rich dishes love its ripe, oaked charm.
