Description
In a nutshell:
A wine with great aromatic complexity and elegant tannic structure from Tuscany, Italy.
The lowdown:
Le Mortelle Poggio alle Nane is a blend of the finest Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small percentage of Carmenere, which express the unique terroir of one of the estates best vineyards. The Mortelle estate is in the heart of Maremma in Tuscany, near the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. The property extends over an area of 270 hectares, the soils are sandy and loamy with clay and silica. The winery in which the wine is made is very sustainable and spread over three floors, this allows the wine to be moved from tank to tank with only gravity. The wine is aged with 16 months in French barrels before being bottled. An intensive ruby red colour, it has a spicy nose with notes of balsamic, cloves, coffee, and liquorice, accompanied by ripe, dark plum and blackcurrant fruit. On the palate this wine is both rich and elegant, with vibrant tannins.
When to drink:
This wine is drinking well now but could benefit from being laid down to age in bottle for longer, 5-10 years. Would suit being paired with beef or venison dishes.
