Description
In a nutshell:
Juicy and and approachable, this is the ever popular second wine of Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste.
The lowdown:
Lacoste Borie is always very good value considering the site and the estate and this, from the attractive 2019 vintage, is no exception. It's a pleasing wine made a slightly more forward style to be drunk younger that its big brother, but still serious and worthy of respect. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc it was hand harvested and aged for at least 14 months in barrel. Juicy black cherry and redcurrant, floral and cedar aromas lead onto a medium-to-full bodied palate with soft and silky with light tannins and a lingering finish.
The Producer:
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, is a 5ème Cru Classé estate which has, for a long time, punched well above its weight. Through inheritance it passed into the hands of the Borie family in 1978. The Bories are long standing pillars of the Bordeaux wine trade and various branches own a number of other prestigious châteaux in the region. François-Xavier Borie himself took over running and managing the estate in 2003 and he's also in charge of winemaking. These days he's actively assisted in this by his daughter Emeline. In addition to the Grand Vin they also make 'Lacoste Borie', their ever popular second wine.
When to drink:
It's drinking well now and will continue to do so right to the end of the decade. Ideal with rich game bird recipes.
