Description
In a nutshell:
A, big, bold porter bursting with hops, rich chocolate, a shot of coffee, and a whiff of tobacco.
The lowdown:
Inspired by the strong porters shipped to India in the 1850s, this beer is a riot of roasty, chocolatey goodness. But don't expect fusty history - a big dose of modern hops brings bright, punchy flavours to the party. Think coffee, dark chocolate, maybe a hint of tobacco, all wrapped up in a robust porter backbone. The hops change with every brew, keeping things fresh, but it always comes in around that 6% ABV sweet spot.
The Brewery
The Kernel was brewing in Bermondsey before the, now famous, Beer Mile was even a thing. Founded in 2009 by Evin ORiordan, it set the standard that many others would follow - proper, no-nonsense beer with a focus on quality over hype. As the Beer Mile took off, Kernel took a different route though, moving its taproom away from the main crowds to shift its attention back to brewing. Even so, its influence on the area's craft beer scene is impossible to ignore.
Style - Porter ABV 6.0% - Strong
