Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh, tart, and funky saison re-fermented with whole fruit for extra depth, zip, and a touch of wild charm.
The lowdown:
Bright, tart, and quietly complex, this Belgian-inspired saison is fermented with a mix of cultured and wild yeasts, then aged in old wine barrels for added depth. It's re-fermented with whole fruit - anything from damson to quince to apples and more, depending on the batch - bringing subtle sweetness, gentle acidity, and a touch of rustic funk. Dry, effervescent, and packed with character, it's a refreshingly wild take on a classic style.
The Brewery
The Kernel was brewing in Bermondsey before the, now famous, Beer Mile was even a thing. Founded in 2009 by Evin O'Riordan, it set the standard that many others would follow - proper, no-nonsense beer with a focus on quality over hype. As the Beer Mile took off, Kernel took a different route though, moving its taproom away from the main crowds to shift its attention back to brewing. Even so, its influence on the area's craft beer scene is impossible to ignore.
Style - Saison & Farmhouse Ales ABV 4.8% - Moderate Strength
