Description
In a nutshell:
Intense mandarin flavours with rich honey notes, a very drinkable sweet wine, from Tokaj Hungary.
The lowdown:
The grapes for this wine come from three different vineyards, Betsek, Szilvas and Danczka, all medium-high cordon systems, with an average vine age of 35 years. The grapes are hand harvested, starting from the 2nd week of November. Following the process of de-stemming is done, the grapes sit on the skins for one day. The fermentation happens in stainless-steel tanks, helping to influence the vibrant acidity present in the wine. A well-balanced sweet wine, with rich intense mandarin flavours and honey notes, along with textured acidity to prevent it from becoming cloying.
The Producer:
The Kardos family have owned vineyards in the Tokaj region for centuries, but it was only in the 1990's, with the end of Soviet domination, that they were to build a winery and go about building a reputation for themselves. Their vines sit in and around the crazy sounding village of Mád - long seen as Tokaj's most prestigious area. At first, they were a bit of a boutique operation, but when Gábor Kardos Jnr came onboard in 2008 things were put on a more serious footing. And more importantly, quality of output became the focus of things. They produce both the famous dessert wines of the area and delicious dry wines. Everything is made to meticulous standards and theyre an outfit to take note of.
When to drink:
Perfect for drinking by itself or with tropical fruit desserts or fruity Middle Eastern savoury dishes.
Suitable for Vegans
