Description
In a nutshell:
A lively rosé with a proper burst of wild strawberry, redcurrant, and a cheeky twist of citrus - just the thing for when you're pretending its summer.
The lowdown:
This super refreshing rosé comes from dry-farmed Grenache grown on north-facing shale slopes, harvested early to keep the sugars in check. The famous Cape Doctor winds from False Bay whip through the Helderberg vineyards, giving the grapes their signature natural acidity - just the ticket for a crisp, elegant style. In the glass, it's a delicate salmon pink with aromas of strawberry, rose petal, and a whisper of orange blossom. The palate is dry, rounded, and refreshing, with juicy fruit balanced by a lively streak of acidity. Ideal for when you want something light but still worth savouring.
The Producer:
Tucked away In Stellenbosch's Schapenberg hills, Journey's End Vineyards have a view that would make even the most jaded traveller pause. It's not just a pretty spot though - this part of the world is tailor-made for growing grapes. Owned by the Gabb family since 1995, originally from Shropshire in the UK, they've grown from modest beginnings into a highly respected estate. Their philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: minimal intervention, maximum expression of the terroir. The results are wines that speak for themselves - and the steady stream of awards they get suggests they've struck the right balance between craft and nature.
When to drink:
Perfectly fine on its own, but with food it pairs a treat with zingy prawn tacos, watermelon and feta salad, or those fiddly Vietnamese rice paper rolls - anything light and summery that won't upstage it.
