Description
In a nutshell:
A zippy Stellenbosch Sauvignon with citrus, green apple, and a herbal twist - like a sea breeze in a glass, minus the sand.
The lowdown:
The trick to keeping this Sauvignon fresh and full of delicate aromas is harvesting the grapes in the cool early morning. A bit of skin contact and lees stirring in the winery adds a touch of richness and complexity - just enough to make things interesting. On the nose, it's all lime, grapefruit, melon, and crisp apple, leading to a palate thats bright with kiwifruit and tangy green apple. There's a lovely, rounded texture to balance the crisp acidity, finishing clean and fresh.
The Producer:
Tucked away In Stellenbosch's Schapenberg hills, Journey's End Vineyards have a view that would make even the most jaded traveller pause. It's not just a pretty spot though - this part of the world is tailor-made for growing grapes. Owned by the Gabb family since 1995, originally from Shropshire in the UK, they've grown from modest beginnings into a highly respected estate. Their philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: minimal intervention, maximum expression of the terroir. The results are wines that speak for themselves - and the steady stream of awards they get suggests they've struck the right balance between craft and nature.
When to drink:
Lovely on its own, but if you're having food, try it with grilled seabass, herby cod, or a proper Niçoise - it's spot on with its zesty, fresh flavours.
