Description
In a nutshell:
One of the most famous quality Swiss white wines produced by the highly regarded Badoux winery.
The lowdown:
Made from the Chasselas grape variety in the Vaud sub-region of Chablais, just to the east of Lake Geneva. Aigle les Murailles is Chasselas at its best and one of Switzerland's most famous wines coming from a beautiful, very steeply terraced vineyard. Delicate blossom and chalky mineral aromas at first that lead onto a fresh, rounded and elegant palate with floral notes and rich stone and tropical fruit flavours. A charming, soft and weighty wine with balanced acidity and a long finish.
The Producer:
Founded in 1908 in the quaint town of Aigle, at the eastern end of Lake Geneva, Maison Henri Badoux has steadily grown into a well-known Swiss winery and their flagship range, "Aigle les Murailles", is particularly celebrated. If youve ever driven through the upper Rhône valley, you might have noticed the distinctive retaining walls propping up the steep vineyards - these are the 'Murailles' that give the wines their name. It's a nod to the rugged beauty of the region and the dedication of the winemakers. The winery's reputation mirrors the steady, unpretentious charm of its origins.
When to drink:
Try as an aperitif, with fish or vegetable terrine, or fresh trout. Also works well with hard cheeses.
