Description
In a nutshell:
A pure, bright and expressive, low sulphur, Spanish red from the Rioja region.
The lowdown:
Quite simply, this is a wine full of character, fruit and flavour. It's made from biodynamically grown Tempranillo in the Rioja Alta region with a minimal intervention approach and is whole bunch fermented which promotes the full expression its generous fruit character. With a bright cherry red colour the primary notes of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and violets together with clean mineral tones derived from the vineyard's granite soils really shine through. There's no oak ageing here and the result is a really delicious wine for a remarkably low price tag.
The Producer:
Gonzalo Gonzalo Grijalba, the guy behind Gran Cerdo wines, definitely does things his own way. And when it comes to his wines, that's no bad thing. The pigs head on his labels is his playful dig at the bankers who refused him a loan when he was starting out. But, despite that, he's been up and running for a while now, following his passion for making delicious wines. He sticks to biodynamic principles in his small vineyards but blends that with a modern approach. The result? Fantastic, natural wines that really stand out.
When to drink:
With its fine balance of subtle tannins and crisp acidity red meats and ham are good partners here.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
