Description
In a nutshell:
Full flavoured and fragrant rosé Champagne.
The lowdown:
This highly reputable cuvee has a soft and flowing hue of salmon pink with a few ruby-cherry reflections. The nose is clearly marked by the strawberries in both the fresh fruit and the jam formats. Wild red cherry, redcurrant, and a hint of grapefruit dominate the palate. The mouth is well structured with a constant tension between freshness and a fruity roundness.
The Producer:
Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne, it was founded in Ay in 1584 by Pierre Gosset an alderman and winegrower who made mostly red wines. In the 18th century Gosset joined their neighbours and began to make sparkling wines. The grapes come mainly from premier and grand cru vineyards surrounding Epernay covering around 120ha, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the house's focus. Since 1993 Gosset has been owned by the Renaud Cointreau family, winemaker Odilon de Varine has worked at Gosset since 2006 and is the custodian of the House's characteristic style.
When to drink:
A great match for summer fruits, plump ripe strawberries particularly, and also good with foie gras where it stands up to the richness perfectly.
