Description
In a nutshell:
This fascinating version of lambic is blended with a generous helping of Muscaris grapes, bringing a beautifully floral and fruity twist to its character.
The lowdown:
If there's ever been a perfect crossover between wine and beer, this is it. Take a lambic, add in a load of grapes - Muscaris here - and magic happens. The grapes are macerated for 5 months in 3-year-old lambic, then bottled to ferment further, giving it a lovely sparkle. Floral, juicy, tropical, with gentle acidity, a touch of sweetness, and light tannins, while the grapes bring delicious layers of complexity to the lambic's tartness. Vibrant and full of character, it's brilliant with soft cheeses, roast duck, or even fruity desserts like apricot tart - equally at home with savoury or sweet dishes and a real treat.
The Brewery:
In Belgium, where beer is practically a way of life, the Lambics and Gueuze beers of the Zenne valley stand out as something special - and Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen is one of the most outstanding practitioners. It all started back in 1953, when Gaston Debelder opened a bar and restaurant in Beersel. He became known for blending lambics from other brewers, earning himself a loyal following. Leap forward to 1998, and the family decided it was time to start brewing their own. These days, they're one of the few brewing and ageing their lambics completely in-house, sticking to traditional methods while adding their own inventive touch. Their beers are distinctive and special and worth looking out for.
Style - Lambic & Traditional Sours ABV 7.9% - Strong
