Description
In a nutshell:
Limited production run Hampshire sparkling wine.
The lowdown:
Exton Park's Blanc de Noirs is made entirely from Pinot Noir grown in their 60 acre vineyard on a Hampshire chalk hillside. This wine is a blend of 28 Reserve wines from Exton's impressive collection dating back to 2011, allowing Exton to produce a consistently high quality Non Vintage year after year, similar to Champagne. Only small amounts are produced each year of this limited production wine. A complex and sophisticated wine with aromas of freshly baked brioche and touches of blossom. The palate is rounded and soft with rich fruity notes and a long finish with hints of spicy white pepper.
The Producer:
Exton Park, situated in the rolling downs above Hampshire's beautiful Meon Valley is among England's top estates. Established in the mid-2000s, substantial investment has been put in to create a 60-acre vineyard together with a state-of-the-art winery and tasting facilities. Vineyard Director, Fred Langdale, who is a specialist in cool climate viticulture and in particular sparkling wines, has been involved from the outset and now that the vineyards are reaching maturity is able to take the credit for the reliable quality of their output. the output from Exton Park is very much a marker for the direction of English Sparkling - high quality, premium wines at sensibly pitched price levels.
When to drink:
A bit of a foodies fizz a Blanc de Noirs works well with sushi, or try with weightier dishes like lobster, or even try with harder cheeses with a stronger flavour.
