Description
In a nutshell:
A rich, rounded and rewarding biodynamic red from South West France.
The lowdown:
In a nod to their proximity to Bordeaux, an hour or so north, this wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc has some similarity in style to a left bank claret. Following fermentation stainless steel it's been allowed to mature in large oak cask, or foudres as they're known. Acquiring, along the way, a mellow garnet hue it's also gained striking leathery and rich prune aromas to add to the plump fruity flavours. It finishes on a soft and ripe note nicely in keeping with the overall character of the wine.
The Producer:
Domaine du Pech is situated on the slopes of Sainte-Colombe-en-Bruilhois in the southeastern corner of the Buzet appellation near the Garonne River about halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse. This Biodynamic domaine has been run by Magali Tissot and her partner Ludovic Bonnelle since 1997 after they took the reins from Magali's father Daniel. Natural wine is what theyre all about - fertilizers havent been used for over twenty years and only natural yeasts and bacteria are used in winemaking. Bottling is done without filtration and only minimal amounts of sulphur and copper are used. Theyre among just a handful of growers in the area that work in this way and their wines certainly reflect the character of the region.
When to drink:
A good partner to rich and hearty stews and casseroles.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
