Description
In a nutshell:
A red over-flowing with ripe red fruit, and a well-balanced body from Bekaa Valley, Lebanon.
The lowdown:
This delicious Bekaa Valley red greets you with a deep ruby hue and a nose bursting with dark cherries, cedar wood, rosemary, and cloves. On the palate, the rich savoury notes are beautifully balanced by fine tannins, creating a harmonious and elegant profile. It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, with a little Cinsault and Carignan, sourced from 15-20-year-old vines planted on sandy limestone soils. Very expressive and full of Lebanese character.
The Producer:
Domaine des Tourelles, founded in 1868 by Frenchman François-Eugène Brun, holds the title of the oldest winery in Lebanon. The Brun family maintained ownership until 2003, when it was passed to the Lebanese Issa and Issa el-Khoury families, who have since brought the estate into the 21st century. Their vineyards, situated in the prime locations of the Bekaa Valley, are organically farmed. In the winery, they adopt a minimal intervention philosophy, using natural yeasts for fermentation and avoiding fining or filtration, with minimal sulphur use. Not just the oldest, Domaine des Tourelles is also one of Lebanon's finest wineries.
When to drink:
Pairs well with rich lamb dishes or spicy Asian dishes.
