Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh and approachable Grenache-driven southern Rhône red with vibrant fruit, soft tannins, and a subtle touch of Provençal herbs.
The lowdown:
This is the wine that's put Font-Sane firmly on the radar, with glowing write-ups from the likes of Jancis Robinson and Decanter. It's a classic southern Rhône red - full-bodied, packed with bold red fruit, and layered with a savoury, almost rustic complexity. Grenache takes the lead here, backed up by Syrah, with a touch of Mourvèdre and Cinsault adding a bit of depth. The 2021 vintage might still be finding its feet, but it's already drinking beautifully, brimming with youthful charm and a touch of exuberance that's hard not to like.
The Producer:
Domaine de Font-Sane is a small family-run estate and a standout name in the southern Côtes du Rhône. With over 160 years of winemaking under their belt, they've mastered the art of coaxing the best from their patch of Gigondas terroir. Now in the hands of Veronique Cunty-Peysson, her husband Bernard, and their son Romain, they've played no small part in raising Gigondas' profile as a serious wine region. From their 16 hectares of vines they produce a range of reds and rosés, with their impressive Gigondas cuvées really showing what they're made of.
When to drink:
Made for hearty dishes, so try it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder - anything rich enough to match its youthful boldness. Great drinking already, but it'll happily wait a few years if you prefer.
Suitable for Vegans
