Description
In a nutshell:
A smoky, spicy and black fruit led vintage of Musar's flagship wine.
The lowdown:
An intensely smoky, spicy and black fruit led vintage of Musar's flagship wine. It's a vintage that's unmistakably Musar in style. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan vines used have an average age of around 40 years and the wine itself has been seven years in the making, being released in early 2023. 2017 was a very small vintage so the UK's allocation is very limited this year. It's enticingly aromatic with rich flavours of baked fruit and spices and is full bodied and wonderfully appealing.
The Producer:
Château Musar is undoubtedly the iconic wine estate in Lebanon. Their vineyards are in the Bekaa Valley at over 1000m in elevation which gives them the cool nights needed to ensure optimum conditions for their fruit. Originally established in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, the estate is still owned and run by the second and third generations of the family. Serge, Gaston's eldest son took over in 1959 and remained fully active until his death in 2014. Today two of Serge's sons run the business; Gaston is in charge of winemaking operations while Marc looks after the commercial side of the business. In addition to making world renowned wines they've managed to keep the estate running through periods of civil war and unrest which speaks volumes for their dedication to producing wine.
When to drink:
Ready for drinking from now until at least 2035, it's great alongside richly flavoured game dishes.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
