Description
In a nutshell:
Classic, rich and minerally Pomerol from a top quality, biodynamic estate.
The lowdown:
Brimming with dense dark fruit aromas, surrounded by a hint of liquorice this is a really characterful example of what top level Pomerol is like. On the palate there's buckets of cassis and brambles and elegant spicy notes which all hang together beautifully courtesy of the smooth, rich tannins. The finish is really satisfying and persistent. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, it's fermented naturally and aged in a mix of French oak and clay amphorae before being bottled unfiltered. A very compelling and rewarding, biodynamic wine.
The Producer:
Château Gombaude Guillot is a small 7 hectare estate right in the heart of the Pomerol plateau and sits alongside some illustrious neighbours such as Châteaux Clinet and l'Eglise Clinet. They were one of the first estates in Pomerol to start farming organically and since 2005 have been fully biodynamic. Olivier Techer is the winemaker and runs operations alongside his wife Marine and brother Sylvain. They're an unflashy, unfussy operation, but their wines can be absolutely relied upon vintage after vintage.
When to drink:
This is now nicely mature and perfect for drinking. It can also be kept until the mid 2030's. The rich savoury flavours of venison or beef rib are the types of foods that will match up well here.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
