Description
In a nutshell:
Bold yet refined - a South African take on a classic Bordeaux blend, packed with dark fruit, subtle spice, and polished elegance.
The lowdown:
A bold yet refined Bordeaux blend from Chamonix's picturesque Franschhoek vineyards, made with serious attention to detail. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon take centre stage, with bunch-selected grapes hand-sorted for only the ripest fruit before spending 18 months in oak barrels. The result? Deep mulberry in colour, with intense aromas of vanilla, ripe cherries, blackberries, and sweet spice. The palate is full, smooth, and well-structured, with grippy tannins giving it real presence and a long, lingering finish. Rich, polished, and packed with character.
The Producer:
Situated above the fertile Franschhoek valley Chamonix Wine Farm is all about place. They aim at authentic old world-styles of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc that are full of grace and elegance. Since being acquired by German-born entrepreneur and adventurer Chris Hellinger two decades ago, the estate has undergone tremendous improvements, and in addition to their top quality they offer visitors a host of culinary and recreational options in spectacular surroundings. Heading up the winemaking team is the talented Niel Bruwer.
When to drink:
Drinking beautifully now, though it will age very well over the next few years. Grilled and roast lamb, and most types of red meats go well with this.
