Not the most widely seen Premier Cru, Vaulorent sits on the same prized hill as several Grand Cru vineyards, and it often punches above its weight. Domaine Roy's 2022 cuvée is a fine example, with its firm, crisp acidity and that sought-after, steely, gunflint minerality. It's polished, too, with graceful citrus fruit flavours and a delicate touch of peach adding some elegance. The citrus aromas - lime and lime leaf - are spot on, and the finish is long, clean, and refreshing. Precise, direct, and mouth-watering from start to finish.

Domaine Roy has deep roots in the village of Fontenay-Près-Chablis, with the family tending vines for nearly 300 years. Claude Roy, his daughter Karine, and nephew David now manage the 20-hectare estate, which sits on the right bank of the River Serein. They're among the largest holders of grand cru plots in the area, which is quite the feather in their cap. Historically, most of their wine has stayed local, with only a small amount finding its way overseas. It's a family affair through and through, quietly producing quality wines while keeping things close to home.
When to drink:
This pairs beautifully with delicate fish like sole or sea bass, where the crispness and citrus notes really shine, and it's spot on with sushi or sashimi, with its clean acidity.
