Description
In a nutshell:
An elegant and savoury traditional, classic Tuscan red.
The lowdown:
Carpineto make some of Tuscany's most reliably good wines and this is amply demonstrated in this distinguished Montepulciano. Made from 90% Sangiovese most of the wine is aged in large Slavonian barrels for two years followed be a minimum of six months in bottle prior to release. It's extraordinarily elegant and ethereal, delivering ripe red fruits, hints of violets and touch of oak spice. Very well balanced and stylishly textured it has a velvery mouthfeel which leads onto the long, delicious finish.
The Producer:
In 1967, two wine fanatics, Giovanni Sacchet and Antonio Zaccheo set out to produce a Chianti Classico that would gain international renown. They saw that untapping the potential of the Tuscan terroir and combining that with modern methods and equipment would allow them to create seriously good wines. And in creating Carpineto , they achieved just that. From their base in the village of Dudda between Florence and Siena they now farm 500 hectares across four estates in some of Tuscany's most prestigious appellations and export their wines worldwide. And though the consistency of their wines has earned them a solid reputation, Giovanni and Antonio continue to strive for continued improvement while maintaining a strong focus on traditional Tuscan values.
When to drink:
It's the sort of thing so serve with full flavoured game such as venison. Mature cheeses also go well.
