Description
In a nutshell:
Supple and fruit-forward with gentle strucre - classic Côte d'Or Burgundy that's easy to enjoy but not short on character.
The lowdown:
Reliable red Burgundy from the Côte d'Or isn't exactly known for bargain pricing, but this one offers a smart way in - solid, well-made stuff from the region's only co-op. It opens with a generous nose of red cherry, raspberry and soft spice, then follows through with a silky, mid-weight palate full of ripe berries, fine tannins and a lovely bright snap of acidity. A bit of time in barrel adds gentle toast and depth without tipping the balance. Polished, poised, and very Côte d'Or.
The Producer:
Founded in 1957 by a handful of growers in Orches, Nuiton-Beaunoy is now the Côte dOr's only co-operative cellar, representing around 80 families. Their vineyards stretch from the Hautes-Côtes to the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, covering nearly 400 hectares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With a strong focus on sustainability - including organics and bottle reuse - the wines offer a broad and well-made window into Burgundy, often at prices that make exploring the region a good deal more accessible.
When to drink:
Great with roast guinea fowl or herby chicken thighs, and spot on with grilled salmon - especially with a soy and sesame glaze. A dependable all-rounder and works especially well with lighter meats and gently spiced dishes.
