Description
In a nutshell:
A classic, dry English gin from Sussex made using distilled grape pressings.
The lowdown:
At the forefront of the English wine industry Bolney Wine Estate have added to their range of drinks with this masterly gin. The later pressings of their grapes contain too many polyphenols to be used in wine and so, instead of going to waste, these have been distilled and used in the base of their gin. The distinctive range of flavour compounds which show up here add an extra dimension to the finish product. Among the botanicals used alongside juniper are lemon oil fennel and bay. The result is a richly scented gin with an earthy and floral depth which has a real spiciness on the nose and finish. It gives a natural zing to a G&T and a satisfying heart to any cocktail.
The Producer:
Bolney Estate was established back in 1972 which predates the more recent upsurge in the English wine industry. However, under Sam Linter, daughter of founders Janet and Rodney, who now heads up the winemaking operations the estate has kept its finger on the pulse of modern practices and standards. Without doubt Bolney ranks among the foremost of English wine estates in both quality and ambition and they've done much to raise the reputation of English wine as a whole. Since 2022 theyve been part of the Henkell Freixenet group, a global leader in sparkling wines.
