Description
In a nutshell:
A fantastic southern Spanish vermouth made from old Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry.
The lowdown:
The sherry region around Jerez was, for a long time, an important area for the production of vermouth, but which dies out in the 1960s. Fernando de Castilla, still registered as a vermouth producer, have now brought this style back to Jerez. With a rich mahigany colour tt has lovely rich aromas of dried fruit, nuts and herbal notes and a palate that's full of flavour, silky and sweet yet with the characteristic and refreshing bitter bite.
The Producer:
Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castillo, located in the historic centre of Jerez, the capital of the Sherry region, has been under Norwegian Jan Pettersen's ownership since 1999. This small, independent sherry house has gained a solid reputation for specialising in complex, high-end sherries. Theyve become one of the most respected names in the field. Besides their renowned sherries, their brandies and vermouths are also well worth exploring.
When to drink:
A delightful revival of a wine style well suited to this part of Spain.
Suitable for Vegans
