Description
In a nutshell:
A silky, seductive Western Australian Pinot Noir, bursting with juicy red berries, a dash of earthy spice, and a smooth sliky texture.
The lowdown:
Pinot Noir isn't all that common in Western Australia, but in the cooler pockets of Pemberton, which are better suited to the variety, Larry Cherubino has crafted something rather impressive. This one opens with bright raspberry aromas and a subtle hint of forest floor, giving it an inviting charm. It's silky and refined, especially for a young wine, with just a touch of spice lingering on the finish. There's no big, bold statement here - just a well-judged balance of elegance and finesse, allowing the delicate fruit to shine. A great example of what can be achieved with a careful hand, and at this price, well worth discovering.
The Producer:
Larry Cherubino Wines is a name that consistently pops up when discussing Western Australian wine. Larry Cherubino, the man behind the label, is a bit of a legend in the region. After graduating from Australia's prestigious Roseworthy program, he spent years honing his craft around the world before returning home in 2005 to set up his own show. Today, he's not only making highly regarded wines under his own label, but also lends his expertise to a number of other big names. Larry's a bloke who wears his passion for winemaking clearly on his sleeve, and it shows in the quality of the wines he produces.
When to drink:
Light on its feet and full of bright, juicy fruit, this is spot on with things like grilled pork chops with a cherry glaze or herby Cumberland sausages with caramelised onions - these will happily waltz along with its silky texture and hint of spice.
