Description
In a nutshell:
A harmonious and rich New Zealand Pinot Noir from a top spot in Central Otago.
The lowdown:
Wild Earth's vineyards are the the Bannockburn area which is right at the heart of Central Otago's wine region. The fruit is hand harvested and after fermentation aged in French Oak for around 12 months. This gives a gorgeously styled wine with an inviting bouquet showing dark cherry, plum, violet, toasted almond and olive characters, followed by a succulent palate that is plump and rounded. It is elegant and fabulously poised, delivering fruit richness as well as refinement, wonderfully framed by fine, polished tannins.
The Producer:
Wild Earths founder is expatriate Californian Quintin Quider who had spent many years living on New Zealands South Island before establishing his winery in 1998. Wild Earth owns vineyards in one of Central Otago's finest locations - at the end of Felton Road in Bannockburn, overlooking the Kawarau River. Their first vintage was produced in 2004 and only a few years later after winning five trophies at the 2008 International Wine Challenge and Decanter World Wine Awards they started to amass a regular collection of awards. Their small but dedicated team, including winemaker Jen Parr, who in 2020 was named New Zealand Winemaker of the year by Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine. And viticulturist Gary Crabbe, have the sole aim to create the finest Pinot Noir and Riesling their vineyard sites can produce.
When to drink:
Drinking well now but also age worthy for 10-12 years. It's big enough to pair with beef, veal and game dishes very nicely.
Suitable for Vegans
