Description
In a nutshell:
This South African rosé boasts a delicate, mineral-driven profile reminiscent of Provence - a sophisticated choice for discerning palates.
The lowdown:
A Cape rosé that's evocative of the finest examples from Provence, with its delicate pink hue and aromas of pomegranate, raspberry, and a touch of flinty minerality. Crafted entirely from Mourvèdre, like the revered wines of Bandol, it exudes finesse and elegance. Meticulous vineyard practices and gentle winemaking ensure that the soft red fruit flavours intermingle perfectly with the wine's silky texture, culminating in a crisp, refreshing finish. South African rosé may be somewhat overlooked, but this outstanding example deserves to elevate the style's reputation.
The Producer:
Waterkloof, established in 2004 by Paul Boutinot, is a bit of a favourite of those who appreciate wines made with care and a more than a touch of conscience. This family-run estate is proudly organic and biodynamic, even sporting the WWF Biodiversity Champion title. Perched on the Schapenberg hills overlooking False Bay, their vineyards benefit from cool breezes and a leisurely growing season, producing wonderfully balanced fruit. In the cellar, winemaker Nadia Langenegger allows the grapes to speak for themselves with minimal interference, creating wines that feel genuine, refined, and very much a taste of their unique surroundings.
When to drink:
Delightfully, dry rosé that's perfect for sipping on its own, but also pairs beautifully with grilled prawns, sushi, or a fresh summer salad.
Suitable for Vegans, Biodynamic
