Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth and rich natural Carignan with ripe red fruit and spicy notes from Chile.
The lowdown:
The producers of this wine, Vina Echeverría, are very much into sustainable agriculture and theyre very proud of their natural wine range under the ¡No es Pituko! label. You dont tend to see a lot Carignan outside the south of France, but its works very well in this fulsome red. Bring a natural wine its not filtered, or fined before bottling so a bit of cloudiness in the bottle is to be expected. What you do get, though, is a lovely fruity wine with expressive notes of rich plum and ripe black fruits accompanied by subtle spicy notes of cinnamon and a touch of star anise. On the fresh palate there are some fine tannins and subtle earthy tones and its, altogether, a nice, silky mouthful.
The Producer:
Very much a family operation Vina Echeverría, with roots going back to the 1930s, was really put on a modern footing back in the 1980s by former World Bank economist Roberto Echeverría. Upon returning to Chile from the USA he set about renovating the familys rundown estate and has since made it into a widely admired winery. They have 65 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards in Chiles Central Valley and Robertos son, Roberto Ignacio, is the chief winemaker and runs the business alongside his 3 siblings.
When to drink:
This is a very versatile wine but would pair best with beef and lamb dishes, a great pair for any BBQ.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
