The Lowdown
Barbera may be Piedmont's signature grape, but it also thrives in Salta's high-altitude vineyards, where cool nights lock in its trademark acidity. That freshness is met head-on by the generous ripeness born of Salta's abundant sunshine, creating a wine that bursts with juicy raspberry, cherry and plum. Gentle spice and a flicker of floral lift add intrigue, while the palate stays lithe and vibrant from start to finish. It's a finely balanced expression that shows this Italian native can scale new heights - and look perfectly at home doing it.
The Occasion
Light and bright, it brilliant just and shines beautifully slightly chilled.
The Producer
You'll find Vallisto in the far north of Argentina in the province of Salta which lies in the western foothills of the Andes. It's run by Pancho Lavaque who comes from well known family of winemakers in these parts. Pancho's aim is to make more delicate, aromatic wines than the traditional big, inky styles more usual of the region. And his team are creating exciting, rare gems, often from old vines and making modern, elegant wines which are light on extraction and big on flavour and complexity.
