Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth, delicate and complex Brandy de Jerez, Spain's Sherry country.
The lowdown:
Uno en Mil is a single oak cask Brandy and is matured slightly differently to most Brandies de Jerez which are aged in the tradtional Jerez Solera system. The chosen casks for this brandy are aged for over 10 years which makes a very complex, smooth and delicate brandy with rich notes of dried fruits, dates, walnuts and hints of truffles and nutmeg. It's got a long, spiced oak finish and is an excellent example of the quality that can come from a dedicated producer.
The Producer:
Bodega Sanchez Romate Hermanos was founded in 1781 by Juan Sánchez de la Torre. In the early years they steadily built their name as a sherry producer. Towards the end of the 1800s, however they branched out into brandy production which after a while became a key part of their operations. Following a steady decline in their fortunes in the first half of the twentieth century the business was sold to a group of friends in 1954 whose families still retain ownership making them one of the larger sherry houses still in family hands. While they maintain a collection of excellent sherry soleras, the mainstay of their business, these days, is their excellent range of Brandies de Jerez.
