Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh and fruity organic Otago Pinot Noir from actor Sam Neill's Two Paddocks estate.
The lowdown:
A blend of Sam Neill's four Central Otago Pinot Noir vineyards this wine is the flagship of the Two Paddocks estate, an organically grown barrel selection. Most of the work in the vineyards is done by hand and the wine is made using traditional methods including 25% whole bunch, which adds wonderful bright fruit flavours and a vibrancy to the wine. The wine is matured in a mix of old and new French oak. A forward and rich wine with blackcurrant, red plum and spicy aromatics. A dense and persistent textured mouthfeel but balanced with good acidity.
The Producer:
Two Paddocks, actor Sam Neill's family wine business, is dedicated to crafting exceptional wine. Founded in 1993, Neill planted five acres of Pinot Noir in Gibbston, Central Otago. Neighbour and filmmaker Roger Donaldson planted adjacent land, inspiring the name Two Paddocks. Their first vintage in 1997 was promising, and soon after, they were producing world-class Pinot Noir. Their ambition grew and they now aim to create the world's best Pinot Noir. They've since expanded to three other vineyards in Alexandra and Bannockburn, making them the only Central Otago winery with a presence in all three major valleys, highlighting their faith in the future.
When to drink:
One of those wines you can happily drink just on its own. Great with white meat or slightly chilled in summer to have with lunch.
