Description
In a nutshell:
From the vineyards of Alsace, this organic Pinot Noir is bright, fresh, and fruity, bursting with juicy red berries, gentle spice, and a silky, easy-going charm.
The lowdown:
For sheer feather-light elegance, Alsace Pinot Noir is hard to beat - the regions's cool climate and mineral-rich soils make sure of that. Made without any oak, this one opens with aromas of red plum compote and an earthy, bracken-like note. On the palate, brambly berries and a savoury touch take centre stage, with just a hint of gamey richness adding depth. Light tannins and bright acidity keep everything beautifully balanced, making it unerringly delicate yet full of character. There's a lot to like about this ethereal Alsatian take on Pinot Noir.
The Producer:
Regarded as one of the best co-operatives in the Alsace, Cave de Turckheim is situated to the northwest of Colmar. Michel Lihrmann has been the senior winemaker here for many years and his style of dryer wines has been a huge hit, expressing the wonderful breadth of the Alsatian terroir and grape varieties while pushing pure fruit flavours to the fore. From their excellent value Cave Tradition range up to individual Grand Cru varietals as well as Crémants d'Alsace and Vendange Tardive dessert and organic wines, theres something here most palates.
When to drink:
With its delicate structure but savoury edge, this is a great match for meaty fish like seared tuna or a classic charcuterie board. The bright acidity and light tannins keep things fresh - spot on slightly chilled too.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
