The Lowdown
From the home of Sauvignon Blanc, the Loire Valley, 5th generation winemaker Jean-Luc Mardon has produced a highly drinkable, textbook example of Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from his family's estate. The grapes undergo a slower fermentation and aren't bottled until the spring, maturing on their lees in the meantime adding complexity and body. Inviting aromas of citrus of ripe peach lead onto a fresh, clean palate with great ripeness of fruit and a satisfying, dry finish. You can sometimes forget that some of the best value, drinkable Sauvignon Blanc still comes from France.
The Occasion
Can work as an aperitif, classic combination is with goats cheese, or try with a variety of fish dishes including grilled trout or fish terrine.
The Producer
Jean-Luc Mardon is the 5th generation of his family to run Domaine Pré Baron in the village of Oisly in the Touraine area of the Loire wine region. He has been at the helm over 20 years having taken over from his father, Guy. Jean-Luc is a quiet, fastidious winemaker and this certainly shows through in the quality of his wines. The estate is certified by Terra Vitis, which is a rigorous code of conduct for sustainable winemaking and covers all aspects of production from vine to bottle.
