Description
In a nutshell:
A creamy and smooth classic single malt Whiskey from Glenlivet.
The lowdown:
Boasting the classic flavours of the Glenlivet bound up in a creamy, smooth texture, the Founders Reserve is a tribute to the man who started it all. When George Smith began distilling, the Glenlivet had no age statements and he selected whiskey from casks of a range of ages. This history is how the current Founders Reserve is produced today.
The Distillery:
One of the oldest of Scottish distilleries George Smith of The Glenlivet was one of the first to take out a licence issued after the passing of the 1823 Excise Act which is accepted as being the starting point of the modern Scotch whisky industry. Through the nineteenth century the distillery proved to be a success. 1952 saw the start of a series of mergers and consolidations of ownership which has continued until 2001 when The Glenlivet came under its current ownership, that of Pernod Ricard. Over the years the name 'Glenlivet' became so well known that it's often taken to be emblematic of Speyside whiskies as a whole and the Glenlivet has long been the largest selling single malt in the USA.
