Description
In a nutshell:
This dangerously drinkable Alentejo red brims with ripe cherry flavours and a just touch of piquant spice.
The lowdown:
Alfrocheiro is a uniquely Portuguese variety and this wine is a model of the how you'd expect it to be like. Enlivening dark cherry aromas kick things off and are followed by bright stone fruits on the tongue coupled with sleek tannins and a bright acidity making for wine that's altogether fresh and lively. Pinot Noir is genetically related to this grape and you may well be able to pick out some of the similarities.
The Producer:
Terra d'Alter's vineyards are in the remote feeling, sparsely populated region of the Alentejo where cork oaks have long flourished. The climate here can be hot and harsh, but some of the cooler parts are fertile areas for good quality red wines. One of the driving forces behind Terra d'Alter is Peter Wright, an Australian and one of the original 'Flying Winemakers', who made Portugal his home in the 1980's and has been making cutting edge wines there ever since. His long experience and unrivalled expertise speak for themselves in his wines.
When to drink:
Serving this very slightly chilled, especially in the summer, can be a good move. With food poultry and feathered game are pretty good matches.
Suitable for Vegans
