Tegernseer Dunkel Export

As Dunkel, or dark lagers go this has quite a light brown colour. The roasted malt character and ripe fruit aromas make it a lovely mouthful. It then goes on to finish with a complex mix of bitterness, soft fruit, and a slight nutty, yeast like flavour. An excellent example of this style of beer.

Starting out as a Benedictine monastic brewery Herzoglich Bayerisches Brauhaus Tegernsee make one of the best Helles lager in the world. These days the brewery is located on the shores of the lake after which it is named situated an hour south Munich in the foothills of the Alps. Using all the traditional brewing techniques the German brewers have been perfecting for centuries this brewery makes unbeatable beers with a true sense and taste of tradition. With the bulk of their production being consumed in Bavaria not much of it makes its way over to our shores, so they're worth grabbing when available.
