Strange Bru Fernão Pires 2024

Think peaches and citrus with a hint of something flinty. This South African white's got a bit of a backstory. It's made from a Portuguese grape, Fernão Pires, once used mostly for brandy. Now, thanks to some old vines way out in Worcester northeast of Cape Town, it makes a surprisingly fresh wine. Expect a burst of ripe peachiness and a crisp, dry finish. A fun discovery that's well worth a try.

This easy-drinking wine is a lovely match for fish cooked simply, a takeaway curry with a coconut kick, or a roast chicken dinner.

Wildeberg Wines, nestled in South Africa's Franschhoek valley, thrive under the watchful eye of winemaker JD Rossouw. Here they craft their wines from both local vineyards and those further afield.
