Description
In a nutshell:
A fruit-driven and unoaked Chardonnay with fresh citrus aromas and flinty finish, from Canterbury in Kent.
The lowdown:
This delightful Chardonnay displays delicate aromas of white melon and orange blossom, with superb mouth-watering minerality. Expect citrus peel, quince and fresh green apple flavours and a lingering, textured palate. The 100% Chardonnay grapes come from two of Simpsons vineyard sites, the Roman Road and Railway Hill vineyards. Celebrating the purity and richness of the fruit, this wine has spent extended time on the yeast lees to give savoury notes and ample texture to the crisp citrus and stone fruit flavours.
The Producer:
Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the north Downs of Kent where the contours of land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through the Champagne region and on to Burgundy. The vineyards are less than eight miles from the coast providing a crucial maritime influence the wines.
When to drink:
This wine is best accompanied by equally complex food pairings, such as fragrant cheeses, shellfish, and creamy poultry dishes.
