Description
In a nutshell:
An intriguing Kentish white with a mere hint of pink, offering a complex bouquet and an elegant palate.
The lowdown:
A singular and fascinating wine, this is made from dark grapes, vinified as a white and finishes up with the merest hint of rosé. The nose opens with a waft of the Kentish orchard in spring - pear and apple dancing with white floral blossom. There's a hint of sweet spice on the palate, underpinned by a racy freshness and it's bone dry with a creamy, mouth-filling texture and a long, bright finish. A most intriguing drop.
The Producer:
Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the north Downs of Kent where the contours of land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through the Champagne region and on to Burgundy. The vineyards are less than eight miles from the coast providing a crucial maritime influence the wines.
When to drink:
Made to go with food, this pairs wonderfully well with shellfish, crab and lobster dishes in particular..
