Description
In a nutshell:
Top quality cool climate Australian Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills.
The lowdown:
One of the benchmark producers of the Adelaide Hills this shiraz of theirs is a reliably consistent performer. The warmer parts of this area are where Shiraz is king and much of the fruit used comes from this part of the region. Fresh and vibrant on the nose it has plenty of red fruit aromas with hints of dried herbs. It's medium to full-bodied and has notes of mulberry and blueberry with some dry spice and black fruits on the palate with good grippy tannins that build through to the lengthy finish.
The Producer:
The renowned South Australian wine estate of Shaw + Smith was the result of a long lunch in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realise a long-held dream to make wine together. Based in the rolling Adelaide Hills their vision remains as it was which is to make exciting, refined wines exclusively from this part of the world that ranks among Australia's best viticultural areas. The wines are made from a number of sites throughout the Adelaide Hills. They specialise in grape varieties suited to the cooler climate, namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz. This approach and their skill has made them one of the most successful producers in the Adelaide Hills.
When to drink:
Elegant and approachable in style so drinking well now, but will keep for a good few years yet. Grilled or roast beef make a classic food pairing here. Mature hard cheeses also go especially well.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
