Description
In a nutshell:
Bright and juicy with red cherry and cranberry notes, a touch of spice, and a silky, refreshing finish - a gem from New Zealand's sunny Nelson region.
The lowdown:
Zweigelt might be best known as an Austrian grape, but this bright, juicy take from New Zealand shows it can thrive in other places as well. Bursting with cherries, cranberries, and a hint of raspberry, it's got that signature peppery twist and a touch of fresh herbs to keep things interesting. Medium-bodied with soft tannins and a smooth, easy texture, it finishes with a pop of refreshing acidity. One to go for if you're in the mood for something a bit different, but still totally approachable and great drinking.
The Producer:
Seifreid Estate is one of the pioneers of the South Islands wine industry. It was founded back in 1973 by Austrian born Hermann Seifried and his Kiwi wife Agnes in Nelson, one of the sunniest parts of New Zealand. Starting out with just a couple of hectares of vines theyve grown over the years to where they now have over 325 hectares and while one of the countrys significant producers, theyre still a family-owned concern. As a wine region Nelson sits a little in the shadow of its neighbour, Marlborough, at the top on the South Island, but thanks largely to the efforts of Hermann Seifried it has carved out a reputation that is certainly its equal.
When to drink:
Perfect with charcuterie, grilled lamb chops, or a herby lentil salad - the juicy red fruit and peppery twist pair beautifully with savoury dishes, but it's also lovely to sip on its own.
Suitable for Vegans
