Description
In a nutshell:
A rich and honeyed and mellow Grand Cru Alsatian Gewurztraminer.
The lowdown:
Gewurztraminer is one of the signature grape varieties of Alsace and in the expert hands of Domaines Schlumberger it gets a chance to really shine. The fruit for this is grown entirely in the Grand Cru Kessler vineyard in the southern Alsatian valley of Guebwiller. After fermentation the fruit is aged in its lees for a further 8 months to gain layres of complexity. Undeniably intense and opulent, it has a quite rich turkish delight flavour and there's warm, rounded spice exploding on the palate with every sip. Whilst in the medium sweet category the well judged citrus acidity provides excellent balance and making this undoubtedly a class act.
The Producer:
Founded in 1810, Domaines Schlumberger's vineyards sit on the renowned slopes above the village of Guebwiller. Now run by the 7th generation of the Schlumberger family, they've steadily grown over the years to become one of the finest domaines in Alsace. With over 70-hectares they have the largest holdings of Grand Cru in the region from where produce wines that reflect both tradition and meticulous care.
When to drink:
The richness here is just the thing to partner with goose, or turkey dishes and it's also an ideal partner to curried recipes.
