Description
In a nutshell:
A crisp, elegant Sancerre with zesty citrus, green apple, and a touch of flinty minerality, finishing refreshingly clean and vibrant.
The lowdown:
Made from the fruit of 30-year-old vines rooted in the clay and limestone soils above Bué, this Sancerre reflects its terroir beautifully. The hand-harvested grapes are fermented with natural yeasts and spend about three months on their lees, adding depth without any oak influence. It's full of vibrant aromas of exotic fruits and citrus, with gentle hints of minerality and a whisper of orange blossom. On the palate, it's full-bodied and well-balanced, with a bright, crisp finish. Benchmark Sancerre with plenty of character and finesse.
The Producer:
Domaine Jean-Paul Picard et Fils is a family-run estate with roots reaching back to around 1750. Their 14 hectares of vines are scattered across small parcels on the slopes above Bué, known for some of the region's finest terroirs, each plot lending its own unique character due to variations in soil and aspect. Committed to a lutte raisonnée approach, they keep chemical interventions to a minimum, favouring natural methods to preserve ecological balance and support vineyard health. Their wines reflect both the tradition and careful stewardship of this picturesque corner of the Loire.
When to drink:
Pairs beautifully with fresh oysters, seared scallops, or a classic goat's cheese salad, as its bright acidity and flinty minerality lift delicate seafood flavours and balance the creaminess of the cheese.
Suitable for Vegans
