Description
In a nutshell:
A refined white Burgundy that hits a great balance between apple freshness and subtle oaked finesse.
The lowdown:
The village of Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise turns out some pretty attractive whites, just like this, which make great youthful drinking. With fresh apple crispness and a broad, rounded butteriness it adds up to a quite sophisticated wine which has a lively mouthfeel and long mineral finish. Being carefully fermented and aged in oak barrels is the key and is where Jean-Charles Fagot's skill certainly shows.
The Producer:
Based in the village of Corpeau right in between the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonniase Jean-Charles Fagot, who has been at the helm of the domaine since the mid 1990's, makes excellent wines from both these areas. He's also a restaurateur, owning the local Auberge du Vieux Vigneron, and a handy musician to boot.
When to drink:
For food matching go for things like seafood, poultry, and cheese. It is also a very fine drop all on its own.
