Description
Italy: Southern Italy
Firm & Spicy Red
Medium-Bodied - Oaked
Vegan - ABV 13.5% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
One of the classic reds of Italy's heel, darker and more savoury than Primitivo, with spice, depth and grip.
The Lowdown:
If Primitivo is Puglia's easy charmer, Salice Salentino is its moodier sibling. This cracking blend of mostly Negroamaro backed up with Malvasia comes from the sun-scorched heel of Italy and shows a different side of the south. Dark cherry, plum and blackberry fruit are joined by leather, dried herbs and a faintly bitter twist that keeps it firmly savoury. A spell in oak brings warmth and spice, while the tannins give structure without heaviness. The result is generous, earthy and made with food in mind.
The Producer:
Family-run since 1928, Botter has grown into one of Italy's most established wine producers. From their base in Veneto they work closely with partner vineyards and wineries the length of the country, from the northern hills to the far south. It's those relationships that underpin their scale, giving them access to a broad range of grapes and styles while keeping quality firmly in view. The result is a portfolio that showcases Italian quality in all its breadth and variety.
When to Drink:
Excellent with slow-cooked lamb, beef ragù or anything pork-based from the grill - its savoury nature makes sense of rich, meaty dishes.
